Common questions
What do I need to get started?
An iPhone or iPad, a projector or any external display, and a way to connect them: an HDMI cable with the right Apple adapter (USB-C Digital AV or Lightning Digital AV), or an AirPlay receiver such as an Apple TV or an AirPlay-enabled projector or TV.
How do I connect my projector?
By cable: connect the adapter to your device, plug in the HDMI cable and switch the projector to that input. Lumaya detects the display automatically.
By AirPlay: open Control Center, tap Screen Mirroring and choose your receiver. Make sure your device and the receiver are on the same Wi-Fi network.
The projector shows a copy of my screen, not the Lumaya output.
Open Lumaya first, then connect the display. If mirroring is already on, stop Screen Mirroring in Control Center, open Lumaya and start it again. In Play mode Lumaya sends a clean, full-screen picture to the projector while your device keeps the controls.
How do I map a shape onto an object?
Add a shape, then drag each corner handle until it sits on the matching corner of your wall, box or window as seen through the projector. Use curve handles to bend edges around rounded surfaces. Pinch to zoom for fine adjustments.
How do scenes work?
A scene saves everything on the canvas: shapes, visuals, colours and timing. Build one look for Halloween and another for Christmas, then switch between them in one tap. Scenes can crossfade so the change feels smooth.
Beat sync is not reacting to the music.
Beat sync uses the microphone to hear the music around you. Check that Lumaya has microphone access in Settings > Lumaya, that the music is loud enough near your device, and that no other app is using the microphone. Audio is analysed on your device and never recorded.
Can I use my own photos and videos?
Yes. Tap Add media and pick items from your library. Lumaya only sees the items you choose. Large videos play best when they are stored on the device rather than in iCloud.
The picture is stretched or the wrong size.
Set your projector to its native resolution and turn off any zoom or keystone correction on the projector itself. Do the alignment in Lumaya instead, using the corner handles.
Where are my projects saved? Can I move them to another device?
Projects are saved on your device and included in your normal iCloud or computer backups. Restoring a backup to a new device brings your projects with it.
Does Lumaya collect my data?
No. Lumaya has no accounts, ads or tracking. Read the Lumaya Privacy Policy for details.
How do I request a refund?
Purchases are handled by Apple. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com using your Apple Account.
Contact support
To help us solve your problem quickly, please include:
- your device model and iOS or iPadOS version,
- the Lumaya version (shown in the App Store under Version History),
- how you connect your display (cable or AirPlay, and the projector model),
- what you expected to happen and what happened instead. A photo or screen recording helps.
